You're having a great day. You're having a great day. Good work, guys. It's good work. It's kind of a few second hours of work. I can't do it. No, no, no. It's kind of a busy day.

Today's episode. It's a little bit different. See, my nephew is getting married today. April 24th, 2026. And it got me thinking. If I had just a few minutes with him before he walked stand at all, what would I say? Not the typical advice, not the cliches, but the real stuff. The things you only learn after years of marriage. The hard moments, the beautiful ones, and everything in between. So today, this episode is for him, but honestly, it's for anyone who's married thinking about it. Or just wants to understand what it really takes to make it last. Welcome to the Conversations with Rich Bennett. I'm Rich Bennett and today we're talking about marriage. This really got me thinking because my wife and I just celebrated 29 years of marriage together. And she put up a photo from our wedding of my son, my niece, and my nephew. Now, my son's engaged. They're looking to get married, I think 2028. And my nephew's been engaged. And again, they're getting married today. That's a big deal. You watch someone grow up and then suddenly they're stepping into one of the biggest commitments of their life. And it makes you reflect not just on them, but on your own journey. Because here's the truth, marriage isn't something you figure out on day one. It's something you grow into every single day. I think one of the biggest problems today is that people go into marriage with the wrong expectations. Marriage isn't always easy. It's not always 50/50. And it's definitely not constant happiness. Anyone who tells you marriage is easy, either just got married, or they're not being honest. There are going to be days when things feel easy, and there are going to be days when it takes real work just to stay connected. And that's normal. So what is marriage? First, it's a daily choice. Love isn't just a feeling. Feelings come and go. Marriage is choosing that person every single day, even on the days when it's not easy. That's why I always tell people, don't marry the person you can live with. Marry the one you can't live without. Second, communication is everything. And I don't mean just talking. I mean, listen. Really, listen. Sometimes your spouse wants to vent. Listen. Sometimes, the other half don't want you to talk. They just want you to listen, so listen. Not waiting for your turn to speak but actually hearing and understanding each other. Third, you're going to grow. Both of you. The key is making sure you grow together. Not a part. Because life's going to change you. That's unavoidable. But staying connected through the change, that takes effort. And finally, it's the small things. It's not the big moments that build a marriage. It's the little things you do every day. The way you treat each other, the respect, the kindness, the consistency. The little things that you do every day, whether it's taking your loved one coffee and bed, making them lunch for when they go to work, just little things you do and keeping it consistent makes a big difference. And that's what builds something strong over time. Now, let me be real with you for a minute. There are going to be tough seasons. There will be times when you're doing a great. Times when you're frustrated. And yeah, even times when you don't necessarily like each other in that moment. It doesn't mean something's wrong. It means you're human. And here's something I truly believe. Love is what brings you together. But commitment is what keeps you together. Because love can feel strong one day and distant the next. But commitment? That's what carries you through those ups and downs. So don't mind if you create. If I had just a few minutes with you before you say I do, this is what I tell you. Be patient with each other. There's going to be a lot of learning, a lot of growing. And a lot of moments where you have to give each other grace. Always have each other's back. And no matter what's going on in the world, you two are a team. Never stop putting in the effort. The moment you start taking each other for granted, that's when things begin to slip. And remember this, you're not just marrying the person standing in front of you today. You're committing to who they're becoming and who you're becoming together. So Craig, if you're listening to this, I'm proud of you, buddy. Marriage is one of the greatest commitments you'll ever make. It's not always easy, but it's always worth it when you put in the work. There's going to be laughter, a lot of it, challenges, a lot of them as well, growth and movements that test you. But if you stay committed, if you keep choosing each other, you'll build something stronger than you ever imagined. And to everyone listening, whether you've been married for years, you're just starting out, or you're thinking about it, remember this, marriage isn't about finding the perfect person, it's about choosing to love an imperfect person, perfectly, every single day. If this episode meant something to you, I'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment, share your thoughts, or reach out to me directly. And as always, thank you for listening, and let's keep the conversations going.
